GM says, "Ausgezeichnet! And we are all here!"

GM says, "Howdy Jon."

JFZeigler has made JFZeigler's local description A tall, blonde American carrying a rifle, claymore, and doctor's kit.

  [SJ]: For Humaniti?

GM says, "Just to set the seen from two weeks ago....."

JFZeigler has made JFZeigler's local name AllenPrice

GM says, "For divergent backgrounds you are all on Mars in Sytris Major. You see placards offering adventure on an expedition leaving from Moeris Lacus."

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater says, "No Pookie?"

You say, "He's working."

GM says, "He is again working. and not a happy camper."

GM says, "You board a cloud ship and met several martians passengers during your trip."

GM says, "In the morning of the second day of your trip, you spot an Oenotrian warship. The ship you are on heels over and starts to run."

GM says, "However, the winds are weak and the screw galley is over taking you."

AllenPrice checks his weapons. They are, of course, in perfect condition.

GM says, "You and the crew run for your weapons as the warship fires it's first shot."

GM says, "They are near spot on with their first shot as it punches through the sail."

GM says, "Any questions before we take up the next chapter in our thrilling saga?"

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater says, "Nope"

You say, "Does the captain speak english?"

AllenPrice . o O ( Can't we have gone somewhere safe? Like, say the Kongo? )

Emsworth says, "We have four actions per turn (or more), right?"

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater says, "4 unless in close combat"

GM says, "four actions per round until in close combat range of 10 yards. then it's equal to your AGL or Close Combat skill, with max of four."

Emsworth says, "Is firing one shot per action firing more than one shot (for purposes of getting the minus)?"

GM says, "The captain, the merchant and his two sons all speak fair english."

You say, "Higher or lower of the two?"

GM says, "The higher."

GM says, "A one always hits, a six always misses. However targets have a save."

I don't understand that.

If you are trying to speak, prefix your words with a double quote (") or the word SAY, i.e. SAY Fnord.  For more help on communicating, type HELP COMMUNICATION.

You say, "What order do we pose in?"

GM says, "Range is currently 1200 yards. As the warship fires it's warning shot."

Emsworth . o O ( Pose? Are we going to have our picture taken? )

GM . o O ( I hadn't thought about that. combat is simultaneous. )

You say, "MUSH slang for stating actions."

Emsworth says, "Alphabetical order? ;-)"

GM says, "That works for me for combat."

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater says, "that means that GM is always last ;)"

'Buffalo' Bart Teatam agrees.

GM says, "For non-combat times as you think of it is fine with me."

GM says, "So in combat order will be...."

GM says, "Emsworth, Leeghwater, Price, Teatum."

GM says, "And me last."

Emsworth says, "Go?"

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater nds

As Emsworth hefts the big elephant gun, Wilkins coughs apologetically and says, "Is that wise, Sir? Remember what happened to the Maharaja's howdah." Emsworth looks embarrassed for a moment, then hands the gun to Wilkins. "On second thought," he says, "you'd better take the Holland, Wilkins. I much prefer the magazine capacity of the Winchester. "Very good, Sir," Wilkins replies and crouches behind the railing next to Emsworth.

AllenPrice chuckles.

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater offers to reload for the other passengers, as he's not a reliable shot.

AllenPrice says, "Good idea," while sighting on the enemy ship, looking for targets.

'Buffalo' Bart Teatam looks up at the bridge and yells to the captain,"Hey! What are we running for? They'll just shoot us up. Take us on in close and we'll see the mess of them on their way to Glory!"

GM says, "roll dice equal to your observation to get the range."

AllenPrice rolled 5d6 and got 13.

GM says, "Target number is difficult or 12."

AllenPrice grins.

Hans rolls 5d, and gets a 16.

Can't find a player named `roll'.

On 2d6, you rolled 4.

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater doesn't try

Emsworth . o O ( I know the range. Too Far. )

GM says, "You squint at the distant ship and wish you had a heavier weapon or had taken more shooting lessons."

GM rolled 1d6 and got 2.

GM says, "A thunderous cruch hits the ship and you are all tossed about."

GM says, "Roll 1 d6 against your agility to keep your feet."

'Buffalo' Bart Teatam grumbles. "I am strongly opposed to bein' shott at and not shooting b-aaaack!"

On 1d6, you rolled 5.

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater yells in suprise and tries to grab something steady

AllenPrice rolled 1d6 and got 6.

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater rolled 1d6 and got 2.

AllenPrice (who is usually quite surefooted) slips and falls on his nether regions.

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater keeps to his feet

Emsworth rolled 1d6 and got 2.

'Buffalo' Bart Teatam keeps his footing and starts cussing.

The captain says. "We won't be able to take many more of those my friends. I suggest you pray to whatever gods you pray to for deliverance.

Emsworth remains crouching at the railing.

AllenPrice mutters, "For what we are about to receive, may the good Lord make us truly thankful," and returns to his crouch.

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater starts to think about anti-falling devices again

Emsworth Why are they firing at all? Chap'd think they'd want to capture the ship intact.

You say, "Turn us 'round and ram the sonuva....!"

GM says, "The range drops quickly as the relentless warship bears down on you."

Emsworth awaits the moment when his Winchester will reach.

The Captain says. "You are correct young lordship (to Emsworth), I had hope to get some distance, but it's not going to happen, the thrice damnned winds are too light.

True to the timetable the Draconis Ferrum pulls out of the MOO, bearing foreman JHG with it.

With a loud hiss the Draconis Ferrum pulls in the MOO and from its mouth, amid the bellowing steam, issues foreman JHG.

GM says, "At least it's a Oenotrian Warship and not Pirates."

Hans says, "Let me know the moment the range drops to 360 yards."

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater tries to remember what he knows about the Oenotrians

You say, "Well fellows whatever happens, it's been good to know you. At least I proved old granny wrong, she was sure I'd be hung locally. I'm about as far from local  as I could get."

GM says, "Seeing the merchant is now damaged and too slow to ecape, the warship holds fire."

GM says, "The ship closes, 600yards"

GM says, "400 yards."

Emsworth studes the approaching ship with his binoculars, looking for weak spots. Can he see the helm?

GM says, "360 yards."

AllenPrice waits. He's not confident of his accuracy at this range.

Emsworth Emsworth shoots. He isn't aiming for anything in particular, just firing.

GM says, "The ship has a normal main deck where the guns are mounted."

GM says, "Unlike a water vessel, there is a lower deck at the rear half of the ship."

You say, "Lissen Price as soons that ship gets in range, any fool bearing a match gets his head blowed off. Sound like a plan?"

He fires three shots, then duck below the railing and reload, moves a bit, then repeat.

AllenPrice nods in agreement.

GM says, "Roll one die three times at minus one to skill for the multiple shots Emsworth."

I'm down to the automatic success anyway.

Hans rolls 1, and gets a 6.

Hans rolls 1, and gets a 5.

Hans rolls 1, and gets a 4.

GM says, "The sudden crack of rifle fire smotes the crushing silence."

'Buffalo' Bart Teatam holds his fire and keeps down. Not yet.

GM rolled 1d6 and got 2.

Emsworth reconsiders after the first volley and does not fire again.

Emsworth says, "Sorry. That was stupid."

The Captain swears viciously

GM says, "The ship pitches forward and begins to lose altitude."

Emsworth . o O ( Hopefully they'll think that was the only gun aboard. )

GM says, "You are all tossed about as the helmsman and trimsman fight to stablize the ship."

You say, "Not at all. Let them think we can't hit the side of a barn. Now keep your damn head down!!!"

AllenPrice says, "Wonder if we shouldn't land and then draw them in. Might have an airworthy ship afterwards that way."

GM says, "After a heart wrenching drop of some 300 feet, the Krill stablizes."

Emsworth somberly thumbs three catridges into the magazine and a final one into the breech.

GM says, "You look back and the warship has dropped to match your altitude and closed to 200 yards."

GM says, "Please roll one D6 against your observation skill."

AllenPrice grins in anticipation. They're within *his* range, now.

Hans rolls 1, and gets a 2.

AllenPrice rolled 1d6 and got 6.

AllenPrice snorts.

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater rolled 1d6 and got 2.

says, "Made it."

'Buffalo' Bart Teatam places his Henry nearby and draws his pistols.

On 1d6, you rolled 2.

Hans says, "Made it."

You say, "Made it."

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater made the roll

GM says, "After the sudden drop and as you stagger back to your feet you blink your eyes not believing what you are seeing."

Emsworth says I don't believe what I'm seeing.

'Buffalo' Bart Teatam pulls his hat back up over his eyes and gapes a bit.

GM says, "In the distance with her battle ensign flying....."

GM says, "You see a British Aerial Flyer!"

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater cheers

AllenPrice doesn't pull his eyes away from the Oenotrian ship. This isn't over yet.

GM says, "Right about the time you think it's not a hallucination, the dawn is split by the rapid fire of gunfire."

GM says, "The Warship heels sharply to face the new threat."

Emsworth says, "Can we see the helm from where we are?"

GM says, "The Warship returns fire with a surprising amount of guns. You realize how close you can to destruction."

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater shudders

You say, "Hey captain! He shot his load, take us in before he reloads! Let's get some licks in!"

GM says, "You can see there is a platform on that lower aft deck. You can't see the wheel itself, but you see three figures pointing and wilding gesticulating."

Emsworth says, "Wilkins, Price, Teatam. Try for the helm!"

The Captain snarls back. "I'm working on it young sir!

You say, "Hot damn!"

Emsworth fires. This is where the full capacity of the Winchester comes to its right. 12 shots in four actions!

You say, "How far is the ship now?"

GM says, "The Krill dives rapidly and runs full before the wind trying to get as much distance as he can."

Wilkins takes aim and fires. He actually has a chance of hitting something he aimed at.

Emsworth says, "200 yards, right?"

GM says, "At a range of 200 yards when you start your action, that's -3 for range and -1 for multiple shots."

Emsworth rolled 1d6 and got 6.

Emsworth rolled 1d6 and got 2.

GM says, "No-2 for range sorry"

Emsworth rolled 1d6 and got 6.

AllenPrice will take single shots.

Emsworth says, "I'm rolling for Wilkins now. "

AllenPrice rolled 1d6 and got 4.

Hans rolls 1, and gets a 2.

AllenPrice rolled 1d6 and got 3.

AllenPrice rolled 1d6 and got 6.

AllenPrice rolled 1d6 and got 2.

AllenPrice says, "No luck."

Emsworth says, "Wilkins hits. He has Marksmanship 2 and a rifle with range 200."

You say, "I'd be down to auto success, but what the heck."

Emsworth says, "Sorry, no. Range is only 150. My mistake."

GM says, "You put out an impressive amount of noise, but save for Wilkins..."

GM rolled 1d6 and got 1.

'Buffalo' Bart Teatam replaces the pisotls and grabs for the Henry and takes a single shot.

GM says, "Who came very VERY close, no hits were scored."

Emsworth says, "Next action?"

On 1d6, you rolled 1.

GM says, "Bloody lucky save there."

You say, "<OOC> Wooot!"

GM rolled 1d6 and got 2.

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater reloads for people that have multiple guns

GM says, "You see a deck hand crumple as the ship does not match your dive."

GM rolled 1d6 and got 3.

JFZeigler [to Peracles]: In that case, one hit, as it was within my second range band.

GM says, "Another crunch stikes your ship. You do notice this impact is smaller, but you are appalled to see how much planking falls away from the Krill."

GM rolled 1d6 and got 3.

Emsworth says, "Should I roll for my second action now?"

'Buffalo' Bart Teatam cusses some more. Then he readies another shot.

GM says, "The Relative movment of your ships has moved the range out to 400 yards."

Emsworth . o O ( Woosh!! )

AllenPrice waits, then.

Emsworth says, "I don't think a Winchester carbine can reach that far."

GM says, "You see the warship fire some as yet unfired weapon from midships at the aerial flyer"

Emsworth says, "This took place in one fourth of one round?"

JHG has reconnected.

GM says, "You were at -3 to hit for range and multiple shots. You couldn't have hit Hans."

GM says, "Wilkins and Price are the only one who have any chance"

Emsworth says, "The automatic chance to hit doesn't count? When does it count and when doesn't it? I'm getting confused here."

GM says, "You have to have a minimum of 1 after all modifications to have the 1 hits apply."

GM says, "Sorry for not making that clear."

Emsworth says, "So there is no such thing as an automatic hit with a 1?"

GM says, "Your mouths drop open as even from this range you see the size of the projectile from the midship weapon."

GM says, "As long as you have at least a 1, then a 1 will hit. If the modifications drop you to zero, then you can't heit."

Emsworth nods.

GM says, "You watch in awe as the huge projectile somehow manages to hit the small gunboat."

GM says, "The gunboat heels and dives out of control!"

AllenPrice curses.

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater blinks

Emsworth winces.

GM says, "After a precipitous fall of nearly a thousand feet, the gunboat manages to check it's dive."

AllenPrice looks to see what the captain of the Krill is doing.

You say, "I really had enuff of these Oh-note-trians."

GM says, "However, the Warship smelling blood dives down."

GM says, "You see it gain speed and charge right at the still reeling gunboat."

GM says, "The gunboat fires frantically."

AllenPrice says, "Captain! We must go to the rescue of those gallant boys!"

GM says, "But not to enough to stop the behemouth"

The Captain says. "Rescue? It's too late!

You say, "Then revenge!"

GM says, "You turn to look at where the captinis pointing."

AllenPrice whips out his binoculars and examines the situation.

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater curses the lack of safety devices again

GM says, "The warship rams the smaller gunship in the aft port quarter."

GM says, "The sound of impact carries ever to where you are."

GM says, "Even the finest british armor can't defy physics."

Emsworth says, "Captain, we have to try to help them. Once the warship finishes off the gunboat, it'll catch us in short order. Our only chance is to defeat it in concert!"

GM says, "You see the gunboat split in two and the pieces falling toward the merciless desert."

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater prays for the souls of the British crewmen

Emsworth . o O ( So much for that idea. )

The Captain says. "They have already saved us lad. If we turn back, their sacrifice will be in vain.

GM says, "The warship circles over it's kill."

AllenPrice turns his binoculars to the Oenotrian ship, examining it in great detail. (Observation of 5. I'm *good*.)

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater vows to try to invent a personal saftely device, so future airmen can safe themselves.

GM says, "But even from this distance you can see the damage wrought by the gunboat's last volley."

Emsworth says, "How far are we from Moeris Lacus?"

You say, "Then put me down there. I'm going to make those savages pay."

The Captain says. "Less than a hundred miles."

Emsworth says, "If we can't help them directly, we have to get to Moeris Lacus, alert the garrison, and mount a rescue!"

GM says, "The captain tacks away rom the warship until you see the warship limp southward and back toward Oenotrian territory."

AllenPrice nods.

Emsworth says, "They're leaving?!? Without finishing off the gunboat crew? Can we go back and pick up the survivors?"

GM says, "Once he is sure the warship is really retreating he turns the Krill toward the wreckage of the sundered gunboat."

AllenPrice suspects there won't have been any survivors.

You say, "We have to at least check and say some words over them."

Emsworth says, "There'll be weapons we don't want to fall into the wrong hands. And there may be one or two survivors. We have to check."

The Captain. "I'm not coward despite how it looks. My job is to protect this and my passengers above all else. I will not abandon any survivors to the desert.

GM says, "The Krill tacks about and heads toward the rising plume of smoke in the desert."

GM says, "Without a proper dock, the Krill can't land per se, but can drop close enough to the ground that rope ladders can be used."

Emsworth muses about the practicality of carrying a small liftwood boat on a ship.

You say, "... I s'pose heading into that ship would have gotten us killed. My apologies captain. You don't  tell me my business."

Emsworth says, "Right. Who goes down and checks the wreck?"

AllenPrice had better go.

You say, "I'll go. And Price is a doc."

The Captain barks orders rapid fire. "Gaarnoosha you take over. I'm going down the ladder. Any of you redmen are welcome to join me."

AllenPrice digs out his medical kit.

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater will join the captain

Emsworth asks Wilkins to fetch his first aid kit, but Wilkins is already standing by with it.

'Buffalo' Bart Teatam heads for the rope ladder.

So will Emsworth.

GM says, "You all climb down and are awestruck by the devestation."

Before he leaves the ship, Emsworth lends the mate his binoculars.

AllenPrice says, "Halloooo! Can anyone respond?"

The Mate Nods and keeps close watch.

Emsworth says, "first thing, survivors. Second thing, salvaging weapons and ammunition. That ship will be back, or one of its mates."

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater searches for survivors

JFZeigler [to Peracles]: Roll against Observation?

'Buffalo' Bart Teatam looks for a way into the ship, or part of the ship.

GM says, "You check through the broken wreck, you find a twisted nameplate. "HMS Firefly""

AllenPrice says, "Might want to take that with us."

GM says, "Yes JFZ"

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater rolled 1d6 and got 3.

AllenPrice rolled 5d6 and got 17.

On 2d6, you rolled 9.

Emsworth says, "And the ship's log and signal book. Especially the signal book. "

Emsworth rolled 5d6 and got 13.

GM says, "After as complete a search as you can make you find only three survivors."

GM says, "There are 12 mangled dead."

GM says, "Nothing of the ship is salvagible."

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater checks the ship for stuff that in his opinion should not fall into enemy hands.

AllenPrice tends to the survivors.

GM says, "No sign of the logbook."

'Buffalo' Bart Teatam begins arranging the dead in a more dignified manner. "We need shovels."

Emsworth tries to find the Captain's cabin and the signal book.

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater also tries to determine what kind of weapon was used on the gunboat

GM says, "Two of the survivors are grieviously wounded."

Emsworth says, "Can't we bring them along?"

The Captain says. "Considering what they have given for the Krill, it's the least we can do young lordship.

GM says, "Dr Price, you have to roll your medicine skill dice."

AllenPrice says, "Captain, do you have a crane or some other means for lifting loads aboard?"

AllenPrice rolled 5d6 and got 13.

GM says, "Roll for the second man as well."

AllenPrice rolled 5d6 and got 15.

The Captain issues the orders for the boom and net to be lowered for the dead.

GM says, "Despite your best efforts Doctor...one of the men expires."

GM says, "One man is stablized and unconcious."

'Buffalo' Bart Teatam begins to load the bodies on the net.

GM says, "The third regains consciousness."

Hans [to Peracles]: What about the third survivor?

GM says, "He only had a broken arm."

Seaman Davis croaks. 'W-wh-who are..." His voices fdes.

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater pulls out his notebook and makes notes about the way the gunboat was damaged, how the gunboat impacted on the ground and how the dead died.

Emsworth . o O ( Multiple compound fractures, mostly. )

GM says, "He tries again"

AllenPrice tends to Davis as well. He has a flask of medicinal brandy, if need be.

Seaman Davis says. "W-who are you?"

Emsworth says, "Friends."

AllenPrice says, "Crew and passengers from the ship you men rescued. Lie still, sailor, we'll get you on board."

GM says, "He holds his head overcome by the events he's just survived. "

Seaman Davis. "The FIREFLY IS GONE!" He wails.

The Captain says. "We've got the fallen and the other wounded aboard. That Hullcutter is gone, but they might have a friend. We've got to get moving.

AllenPrice nods. "Sailor, are you ready to move? We can't linger."

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater climbs back onboard

Seaman Davis. "Aye sir."

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater makes notes about the spread pattern of the crash site.

GM says, "You all reboard and with the damage to the Krill you note you are flying much lower than before."

Hans [to Peracles]: Do I find the signals book. The code book, I mean.

'Buffalo' Bart Teatam helps the sailor to his feet, giving him a howdy in passing.

GM says, "Roll observation Hans."

Emsworth rolled 5d6 and got 19.

GM says, "You find the codebook clutched in one of the dead's hand."

Emsworth says, "I take it with me. "Do we burn the wreck?" I ask."

GM says, "The trip isn't that much longer, but given the emotional roller coaster you have just been though it seems like days. befoe Moeris Lacas hoves into view."

GM says, "There's nothing left to burn."

Emsworth says, "Is there a Royal Navy presence in Moeris Lacus?"

GM says, "Between gunfire, ram, and crash, there is nothing recognizable of the HMS Firefly."

GM says, "The Navy keeps a few ships in every part of the crown colony. The Firefly was based there."

Emsworth says, "Any other ships present? Or a port captain's office?"

'Buffalo' Bart Teatam climbs back onboard the Krill. "Dang shame. All this cause some Kraag fellow was making mischief."

The Captain says. "There will be an officer in charge young lordship."

Hans [to Robert]: I don't think so. The Oenotrians declared war a while ago.

GM says, "Actually this is the first act of the war."

Robert [to Hans]: Buff is not a detail man. :)

Emsworth says, "Ah, Captain, I'm not a lord, you know. My father is just a country squire. Not title at all."

GM . o O ( You are witnesses to the loss of the firefly and the initial battle of the war. )

GM says, "The captain gives the orders and the Krill docks at the high port."

Emsworth says, "First thing we do is contact the RN officer in charge."

'Buffalo' Bart Teatam checks on Seaman Davis.

GM says, "As you disembark, you see the portions of the liftwood that were shot away by the warship's fire."

JHG has reconnected.

Emsworth . o O ( Surely what we see is what WASN'T shot away... )

GM says, "The captain sends word and shortly a RN Captain arrives."

Emsworth gives him a short, concise report and hands him the codebook.

Captain Hibbletwaith. "My god man what's happened?

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater gives a copy of his notes to Captain Hibbletwaith.

GM says, "Despite his long years of service, the loss of the Firefly shakes the navy man."

Emsworth says, "We were being chased by an Oenotrian warship. The Firefly tried to intervene and was shot down, but damaged the Oenotrian enough to make it fly home."

Captain Hibbletwaith whispers. "This means war!" As he tries to choke down his building fury.

Emsworth says, "We have two survivors and 13 dead sailors aboard. I found the codebook in the hands of a crewman and have kept it by me all the way here."

You say, "They fired some big cannon from the middle of the ship and the firefly just went shimmying about and swooping."

GM says, "He greatfully takes the codebook and orders for the two survivors to be taking to the infirmary."

AllenPrice is willing to give a statement.

Emsworth says, "I have to go AFK for five minutes."

Captain Hibbletwaith thunders. "They destroyed the Firefly with a LOB GUN? Damn bloody all bad luck that!"

GM says, "OK Hans."

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater has nothing much to add to the notes he gave the Captain.

Captain Hibbletwaith says. "Will you gentleman join me in my office?"

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater nods

You say, "Sure."

GM says, "You walk the short distance to his office and as you enter the building a signals rating frantically hands Hibbletwaith a new telegram."

Captain Hibbletwaith murmurs. "The Oenotrian Empire declared war an hour ago.

GM says, "And the city state of Shastapsh has declared it's independence."

Emsworth says, "I'm back."

Captain Hibbletwaith walks over to his liqour cabinet. "Will you gentlemen join me in a brandy?"

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater sighs wearily...."What is Mars coming to?!"

Emsworth says, "Shastapsh? That's the next city along this canal, right?"

Captain Hibbletwaith says. "How long have you been on Mars sir?"

Emsworth gratefully accepts the brandy.

Emsworth says, "A month."

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater [to Captain Hibbletwaith]: Under normal circumstances I would decline, but this situation warrants a drink, I guess.

You say, "Why did this Shastapsh uh... secede?"

GM says, "The captain pours brandy for everyone and tries to compose a toast. "

Captain Hibbletwaith says. "Yes next city up the canal. They've never been a loyal part of the crown colony and have taken the opportunity the war has presented to return to their perfidious ways."

Emsworth says, "Pirates and robbers, are they?"

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater excuses himself to retire to the bathroom

GM says, "Not so much that, you're thinking of Karkarham. That's the pirate haven. Damn near another Port Royal that place."

'Buffalo' Bart Teatam considers his drink thoughtfully. "And maybe they're calling you folks invaders and carpetbaggers, with all due respect."

AllenPrice raises one eyebrow at Bart.

Captain Hibbletwaith raises his glass. "To the gallant crew of the Firefly!

AllenPrice drinks to that.

'Buffalo' Bart Teatam raises his glass and removes his hat.

Emsworth says, "Nonsens. We're here to educate them and teach them our superior ways. Not to exploit them."

'Buffalo' Bart Teatam nods.

Captain Hibbletwaith sputters on his brandy. He looks at Teatum with eyes hard as flint. "I sould expect such crassness from a mere colonist."

Captain Hibbletwaith says. "Thank you for your first hand reports and bring the Firefly's crew home. Good day..." He looks Teatum up and down..."gentlemen."

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater returns

"I suspect American political disputes don't apply here," Price observes mildly. "Is there any way in which we can be of further assistance, Captain?"

Emsworth says, "Steady on, Captain. No need to get all huffy."

'Buffalo' Bart Teatam exits, tipping his hat. "Thank you for the drink. I'll be outside."

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater greets the Captain and exits

Captain Hibbletwaith returns to his desk, the meeting obviously over. "If there are any further questions, the Admiraty will be in touch.

Emsworth says, "Of course, Captain. Goodbye."

AllenPrice shrugs, sketches a salute, and leaves.

GM . o O ( going by the time for our european guests, would you like to stop for now? )

'Buffalo' Bart Teatam . o O (Up to them. I'm fine either way.)

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater has another hour, it being 22:17

When we get outside, Emsworth says, "The Captain is under a lot of pressure just now, Teatam. Losing the FIREFLY must've been a real shock to him."

GM . o O ( ok then we'll play on. )

Emsworth says, "I can stay another hour too. Or two, for that matter."

You say, "I meant no disrespect Mr. Emsworth. But I've been to war and... it's a bad business."

AllenPrice can carry on for about another 45 minutes.

GM says, "Outside the newsies are already hawking the extra editions with headlines blazoned with WAR!""

AllenPrice looks at Bart, evaluates his age. "You were in the War of Secession, weren't you?"

Emsworth says, "Business! It's bad for BUSINESS!?! Is that what you're upset about?!?"

You say, "No. It's a *bad* business."

Emsworth immediately apologizes.

Emsworth says, "I'm sorry. I misheard you. Please accept my apologies."

'Buffalo' Bart Teatam begins rolling a cigarette. "My country might have avoided thousands dead if we had taken the trouble to listen to each other. No need to apologize... all that shooting plugs the ears."

GM says, "You find that Moeris Lacus is a much smaller city than Syrtis Major."

You say, "Shall we see about this here advertisement?"

GM says, "There are far fewr amenities, but you find an inn that caters to redmen."

Emsworth says, "OOC Robert, Teatam is from Texas, right? According to what i've read, if a Texan calls somebody Mr. after he's been introduced to them, it means he doesn't like them."

GM says, "You ask about and quickly find directions to the explorer's club."

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater [to Buff]: "Yes, let's see if the offer is still valid, what with the war on "

Hans [to Peracles]: Is that a branch of the Syrtis Mahor Explorers' Club or another?

GM . o O ( There is /only/ one explorers club! :-) )

Emsworth says, "Good."

GM . o O ( which do you wish to do first, find lodging or the explorer's club? )

Emsworth says, "Explorer's Club first. They can advise us as to lodgings."

Robert [to Hans]: I think he'd call a wealthy fellow Mr. as a sign of respect.

Hans [to Robert]: We've read different books ;-). Since mine were written by a Scot, you may be right.

AllenPrice . o O ( George MacDonald Fraser, no doubt. )

GM says, "You head off toward the club. The red sand of Mars and heat again are oppressive."

Emsworth says, "No, J.T. Edson."

AllenPrice ahs, and pays attention to the GM.

Robert [to Hans]: Well I haven't read anything on OlD West etiquette. But I don't give an attitude of dislike towards Elmsworth.

Hans [to Robert]: Fine. Just wanted to check.

GM says, "You see the sights and sounds of a Martian city. The vendors and beggars are very very remenscient of the middle east."

GM says, "Except for all the tall yellow skinned, web ears Martains."

'Buffalo' Bart Teatam doesn't really mind the heat much. He's felt worse.

GM says, "This being the British quarter, the streets are fairly safe. You see police on patrol and make it to the club without incident."

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater is barely holding up under the heat

Emsworth says, "I wonder if I should get myself a revolver. Never thought about it, but it might come in handy some day."

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater ponders somthing to protect himself against the harsh sun

'Buffalo' Bart Teatam notes his friend's discomfort and hands him his hat.

GM says, "On arrival at the club, Emsworth's member card admits all of you without qiestion."

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater already has a hat but still is uncomfortable

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater [to Buff]: We don't get this kind of weather in the Netherlands

Emsworth asks advice about accomodations first of all.

You say, "You fellas should get yerselves some proper conkcases. That hat ain't proper for desert wear. it don't shiled your eyes or keep the heat from your brain."

Brookes "Good day gentlemen. Major Robinson and Mr TE Grimes are not in at the moment, but Mr Grimes will be in later today. You are very welcome to wait for him in the lounge.

Emsworth says, "Thank you. Meanwhile, what's a good place to stay?"

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater offers to buy drinks for his friends

'Buffalo' Bart Teatam looks around rather ill at ease. "This place is fancier than Delmonico's down Arizona way." He tries not to touch anything.

Brookes says "The Regency is a fine place sir. Short walk down Glasshouse street to the west of here sir.

Emsworth asks Wilkins to arrange for accomodations and to get the luggage settled.

Emsworth says, "Let's have some refreshment while we wait. Name your poison."

GM says, "The club while much smaller than the one in Syrtis Major still has the fine accomedations of a proper gentleman's club."

Emsworth says, "I'll have a sherbet myself."

You say, "Uh... a whiskie is fine for me."

GM says, "You have your luggage delivered to the Regency and have a simple meal at the club."

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater says, "Brandywine for me, please"

GM says, "You wait roughly 2 hours and Brookes the manservant enters the lounge."

Brookes drones. "Mr Grimes will see you now. This way please"

Emsworth signs for whatever refreshment everyone has had and follows Brookes.

'Buffalo' Bart Teatam thinks . o O (This whiskie must be watered down. I can drink it without gagging none. And in a fancy place like this.)

You say, "Much obliged Mr. Emworth."

GM says, "You are lead to the library and are introduced to Mr Grimes. He's a huge bear of man and looks like he'd be more at home in London's dockside than a gentlemen's club."

Emsworth says, "You're my guests here at my club. When we meet in Texas you can stand me one."

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater greets Mr. Grimes

'Buffalo' Bart Teatam nods.

GM says, "After introductions are completed and you all have taken seats, Grimes gets right to business."

Grimes says. "I'm so pleased to see that I have gotten a response from my signs with the arrival of you fine gentlemen considering the events of the day.

GM says, "You see, the three of us-that is, myself, my brother James, and his wife, Alexandra-have planned to venture into the Nepenthes-Thoth Steppe for a bit of game hunting.""

Grimes says. "Unfortunately, word had already come in that the governour general has discouraged travel for small goups for fear of marauding martians.

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater says, "I can understand the governor's worries."

'Buffalo' Bart Teatam nods.

Grimes says. "I put out those placades to get a few good men to bolster our numbers  and besides the more the merrier on the hunt.

Emsworth says, "Indeed."

Grimes says "We would like your help and hope you come-it should be fine sport. We shall not expect to be gone for more than a month or six weeks.

You say, "What are you hunting Mr. Grimes?"

AllenPrice chuckles at Emsworth. "Right up your alley, I should think."

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater says, "I have never hunted, but I'm willing to give it a try."

Grimes says. "That should be enough to find a Steppe tiger and bring it back for mounting. So are you game lads?

"Yes, indeed," Emsworth replies enthusiastically.

Emsworth says, "What are your travel arrangements?"

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater says, "What mode of transport will we use?"

You say, "I had thought this would be employment and not a vacation sir. I am in need of a job at present."

Grimes says "We will be roughing it old man. Gashant caravan. Tents and what not.

'Buffalo' Bart Teatam thinks. o O (Tents? But he said roughing it...)

Emsworth says, "I suppose I'll survive. I'm game."

Grimes blinks and looks at Teatum. "Ah a yank, how quaint. We will pay for the mounts, tact, and camping gear. As for payment....

Grimes hums a bit. "How about 50 pounds Sterling for the four of your to split?"

Emsworth says, "No payment for me, Old Chap. I'm just along for the fun."

AllenPrice snorts at Teatum being called a Yank.

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater says, "I'm willing to accept the offer"

'Buffalo' Bart Teatam gets up, "You hired yourself a former scout Mr.  Grimes." He sticks his hand out.

AllenPrice nods. "Room and board, plus a chance to examine Martian wildlife up close? Capital."

You say, "But I ain't a yank."

Grimes beams. "Splendide Good sirs. Spledide!

Emsworth says, "How long to get organized?"

GM says, "@emit Grimes ponders. "I should say it depends on wha equipment you already possess and time to get used to riding the Gashants. Say a week."

Emsworth says, "I have a complete camping outfit for myself and my man."

AllenPrice is ready for roughing it at any time.

AllenPrice says, "Besides, I'm an experienced horseman. I doubt the local beasts will present any trouble."

You say, "I could go now, pretty much."

Emsworth says, "I've never tried riding a gashant, though I'm not bad on a horse. How different are the two?"

You say, "Don't you have any horses hereabouts?"

Grimes says. "Capital! I had not hoped for such boon and ready companions. We can leave in two days at the minimum. That will give James and myself time to get our affairs in proper order for an extended trip.

Emsworth chuckles.

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater [to Grimes]: I'm not sure what I need for such a trip. If you provide tents and food, then I guess I'm almost ready to go.

Emsworth says, "How much luggage can we bring along?"

Grimes chuckles. "Even the finest Arabian would not last long in the Nepenthes-Thoth Steppes. Even Camels would be hard pressed.

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater says, "Where can I shop for books around here? Technical books, I mean""

Robert [to JHG]: Corneliszn Leeghwater Get a hat, boy.

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater says, "Ahhh, yes.. A proper ....cowboy hat"

Grimes says. "The beasts can bear about 300 pounds total. That's counting the 10 pound tack and the rider too.

You say, "Why does everybody call me a cowboy? I ain't."

Emsworth says, "I have a few basic textbooks with me. In case I got bored. I figured a textbook would last me a long time."

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater [to Buff]: No, no, I'm not calling you a cowboy, but I was under the impression that cowboys wore hats like yours.

Grimes ponders. "Hmmm a cow...boy hat? You might get one of the locals to fashion for you. Textbooks in english will not likely to be available."

Emsworth says, "You look more like a buffalo hunter, Teatam. "

You say, "I was for a while, till I found I was better with Colts than Henry's. Then I took to scouting for the army."

Emsworth says, "I "

Grimes says. "You'll find local newspapers, tuppance novels, and maybe a few local language books. Proper technical books would be as rare as hen's teeth old man."

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater says, "Ahh. I will settle for a locally-made hat like Buff's and some empty notebooks"

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater says, "Ohhh. And some pieces of different types of fabrics"

Grimes says. "It's settled then. If you think you can get the gist of riding the Gashants, we leave in two days, a week otherwise."

Gijsbrecht Corneliszn Leeghwater pulls out his notebook and makes a shopping list: fabrics, string, rope, hat

GM . o O ( I believe that will be a wrap for now. )

Hans [to Peracles]: I assume the set of rough-living clothes from the equipment list includes the appropriate headgear?

All of your local references have been deleted.

GM says, "Yes it does."

You say, "Remove your references here guys."

AllenPrice makes a thumbs-up gesture.

Emsworth says, "What about experience points? "

GM says, "I will give you all one general experience point."

JFZeigler has deleted all of their local references.

JFZeigler makes a note.

Emsworth says, "What's the order?"

GM says, "What's the command to clear the reference?"

You say, "@lrm me"

Emsworth . o O ( It's not 'clear', 'remove' or 'delete'. )

Hans has deleted all of their local references.

GM says, "The game mechanic for increasing skills is you must spend points equal to the value you want. Thus if you have a 2 and you want to go to 3 you have to spend 3 points. If this is above the associated stat you have to roll for the improvement equal to the current value or higher."

Peracles has deleted all of their local references.

Hans nods.

Peracles says, "The highest possible skill is thus 7."

JHG has deleted all of their local references.

Hans says, "That would be impressive. But you'd need to be lucky to get it."

Peracles says, "Unless you have any questions of me, that will be all for today. I hope you all enjoyed yourselves."

JHG says, "I guess we would need to bring our own guns?"

You say, "Well it was fun. Now I have to find some d20 Modern adventures to run. Or just one good one."

Hans says, "If you gave out exps I missed it."

Peracles says, "I gave one one point."

Hans says, "OK."

Peracles says, "Yes you bring or buy your own weapons"

JFZeigler waves. Must go tend to family and write.

JHG will buy Clothing, Rough-Living (1gbp) a portable camera, if available (4gbp), a Stopwatch, if available (3gbp) and some fabrics, strings and needles (1gbp?)

Peracles waves to JFZ

JFZeigler puts on his helmet and takes up his spear. Shouting the paean, he charges off into the distance.

JHG says, "And I'd like to increase my general understanding of Flight by 1 die"

JHG [to Peracles]: I reread the Inventions chapter and saw that I had misunderstood the concept :/

Peracles says, "go ahead a roll then JHG :-)"

JHG rolled 1d6 and got 3.

JHG says, "It's a Naval Arch die, btw"

Peracles says, "Ok I have you at skill 9 now."

JHG says, "Gijsbrecht is going for 15 so he can then try to invent the Parachut"

You say, "We have to work on the clockwork horse too, sometime. I think Buff got the idea talking to Grimes."

JHG [to Robert]: It's why I want the stopwatch, I can then time the Ghasant's movements

JHG says, "But I need a 30 in Precision Machinery first, which is currently 4"

Hans . o O ( A clockwork horse. Now that would be useful in the desert. IF you can find a way to power it and to shield the gears from the sand... )

You say, "I'm trying to figure out who'll wind the darn thing. :D"

JHG is also trying to invent the battery (Electricity, 5, -3)

Peracles says, "You fine the rough living outfit for 1 pound. The camera isn't available. The wtch costs you 4 pounds. cloth will not be wool, it will be local linen so you'll look a bit odd."

Hans says, "That should be doable."

JHG [to Peracles]: And fabrics, inc silk if available?

JHG says, "And how much for the stay in the Regent for the 2 days?"

Peracles says, "The cloth will be only 5 shillings for enough to make three outfits. Not silk like, more like linen."

Peracles says, "Call the rooms 2 shillings a night, 4 with meals."

You say, "I guess I have rough living clothing already?"

Peracles says, "Yes robert."

Green GURPS Room

There is a pyramid symbol centered in the east wall,

the "All Seeing Eye."

You see Green Map here.

Hans, Peracles, and JHG are here.

Obvious exits:

Lobby

JHG says, "The fabric is needed by Gijsbrecht to experiment with cloth for parachuts"

Peracles says, "To get that much cloth will be about 2 pounds for one chute."

Peracles says, "Sytris major might do it, but moeris lacus is a bit rural for that."

JHG says, "As I have not yet invented the parachut I will need to experiment with types of cloths. Not large piece but say handkerchief size"

JHG says, "Let's say that I buy different types of linnens for 1 pound?"

Peracles says, "You can buy that much of a silk like cloth for a shilling. It's expensive stuff."

Peracles says, "A pound will get you enough linen to make a dozen outfits"

Peracles says, "Or two parachute sized pieces"

Hans says, "Gijsbrecht should hire a High Martian to help him test his parachutes ;-)."

JHG says, "OK. Half a pound then. On fabrics ranging from silklike to coarse linnens to fine linnens :)"

You say, "I'd want pictures of that."

Peracles says, "If you can capture one. but they naturally float."

Peracles says, "Might skew the test."

You say, "That's kind of like getting a fish to test a diving suit."

Peracles says, "Exactly. :-)"

Hans says, "can't they switch off the floating?"

Peracles says, "Call it about 20 pounds of weight for that cloth JHG."

Hans . o O ( How do they ever land? )

Peracles says, "If they want to, but they aren't known for being cooperative."

You say, "Try asking them. :D"

JHG remembers that he has to shower before heading to bed as he's still wearing his pirates face paint

Hans says, "Are there really NO High Martian exiles living in any city?"

Peracles says, "That will make a nice imprssion on the staff"

You say, "I have a few things to do too. Later all."

JHG says, "later!"

You click your heels three times.

Pyramid Lobby

You are in a huge, square room.  The floor is black marble, and the ceiling is at least 50 feet high.  The walls are glass, except for the huge, solid buttresses at the four corners.  Outside, you see the gardens of the Plaza.

Around you are various exhibits. You can see a large dinosaur skeleton, a small model of a pyramid, a huge, complex machine with many gears, and many other things. Doors on all four sides lead out. A glass stairway leads to the auditorium on the second floor. A pair of doors on the northwest wall lead into the restrooms. Elevators in the center of the room stand open and waiting.

You see the Chat Schedule and the Lag Meter here.
